About Us

In October 1976 Bill Cornford, proprietor of the Cornford Equestrian Centre invited a group of clients to join him in forming the Cornford Equestrian Centre Riding Club.  An inaugural meeting was held and the club was duly formed with the Bruce Johnston as Chairman, Beryl Letts and Moira Johnston as Joint Secretaries and Ian Osbourne as Treasurer.  To this date Bruce has continued his association with the club as its President.

It was always the club’s intention to become affiliated to the British Horse Society.  The application was presented in November 1976, however the name was not accepted by the BHS so the club became known as the South Cheshire Riding Club.

Today the club very much operates to the original ethos set by the founder members.  That is to provide an environment for like minded people to enjoy their hobby and sport in a friendly and encouraging atmosphere.

We run instructional courses in dressage, show jumping and cross country for all levels of rider and horse experience.  We organise regular club competitions in dressage and show jumping where the emphasis is very much on helping and encouraging our members to improve and progress.  We also hold occasional social events, talks and demonstrations.

South Cheshire Riding Club is affiliated to the British Horse Society and British Riding Clubs.  This entitles club members to compete in the BRC Area Championships and through qualification the BRC National Championships where we have enjoyed considerable success.  As a club we fully support and involve ourselves in area activities.  We enter teams in the following disciplines; dressage, dressage to music, show jumping, horse trials and hunter trials.

Each year we organise an ever popular camp.  This is usually held over a weekend in either April or May.  In 2011 we changed venues to Somerford Park where their superb facilities were enjoyed by all who attended.  We put on a full programme of activities from dressage, show jumping and cross country tuition to quiz nights and other entertainment. Also participants have free unlimited access to the farm ride.
